Where can I get a written description of the PRICE internship program?

Pittsburgh Regional Internship Collaborative Enterprise (PRICE) is a financial services focused business, education and community partnership that provides career development and workplace learning opportunities for college students and college bound high school students. This initiative is structured to increase your awareness of and preparation for careers in the financial services industry within Pittsburgh and southwestern Pennsylvania areas.

As a PRICE Intern, you will:

  • Work to exceed the established internship results-based goals for the mutual benefit of the organization, department and interns.
  • Collaborate with internship manager to complete the PRICE Internship Accomplishment Plan in order to develop and improve skills and competencies.
  • Participate in a mentee-mentor partnership in order to grow, develop, learn and acclimate to the corporate environment.

Your manager will expect that you will:

  • Show up for work everyday and on time
  • Accept responsibility
  • Ask questions
  • Follow directions
  • Work hard to exceed established internship results-based goals
  • Develop and improve identified skills and competencies
  • Concentrate on the work assigned and care about the quality of the work produced

The PRICE Program Coordinator will expect that you will:

  • Collaborate in the career development process
  • Participate in all training and networking activities scheduled for PRICE interns
  • Participate in meeting to discuss internships, career development and performance within the designated internship period

Is there a list of recommended internship employers related to my field of interest?

PRICE builds relationships with financial service organizations within Pittsburgh and southwestern Pennsylvania. Two past employers include Mellon Financial Services Corporation and First Commonwealth Bank. PRICE targets careers that are geared towards students majoring in Accounting, Banking, Finance, Investments, and Economics.


How many internship hours must I complete during the semester, summer or intersession?

The participating PRICE employers will devise a paid work schedule for the summer session.


Who will evaluate my internship performance?

Your manager and PRICE Program Coordinator. Your manager will evaluate your skills and competencies as they relate to your work performance. The PRICE Program Coordinator will evaluate your career literacy abilities.


Will I receive credit or a grade for my internship?

No. The PRICE Internship opportunities are a paid work experience.
Your pay rate is determined by the PRICE participating employer.


Do I arrange my own internship or will someone else make the initial contact for me?

The PRICE Program Coordinator will make the initial contact for you and forward your resume to a PRICE participating employer(s) based on your area of interest. The PRICE employer will contact you to arrange an interview. You will be informed on whether you have been selected by the employer.


Is this internship parallel (integrated) with my regularly scheduled classes or alternating (full-time work)?

One of the benefits of the students participating the PRICE Summer Internship Program is that the interns obtain real world, hands-on, industry exposure. The majority of PRICE interns are not in school during and they can focus on the paid work assignments.


Does the internship involve learning contracts – documents in which the internship participant, employer, and sponsor acknowledge agreed-upon objectives?

Yes. Interns are asked to develop career marketing tools such as a resume, career portfolio OR career development plan and work journal to document skills learned.


Can I expect an on-site visit from a faculty sponsor?

Yes. If needed, the PRICE Coordinator can/will visit the work site.


Does a required class or seminar accompany my internship? Will I have project, assignments, papers, or presentations to complete?

During the summer interns will also be required to attend PRICE Career Development workshops. These workshops are designed to assist the student with tools to manage their career choices.

PRICE interns will also participate in an end of summer project which showcases career, social and family life in Pittsburgh and southwestern Pennsylvania.


Will I receive a stipend or reimbursement for expenses or an hourly wage?

The PRICE Internship opportunity is a paid work experience. Your pay rate is determined by the PRICE participating employer.


Must I sign a waiver absolving PRICE of responsibility if I am injured while at my internship site or networking activities?

Yes.


What transportation arrangements must I make?

It is the intern's responsibility to make transportation arrangement to and from their work site, PRICE workshop and/or networking activity.
